We are Dolly Parton's Imagination Library-Marathon County (DPIL-MC) who partners with the Dollywood Foundation to bring literacy to young children’s homes. The library opened in November of 2026, and we currently have over 2,000 children registered for the library. We are a unique library that offers children the opportunity to receive a free, age-appropriate book in the mail each month. The children in our community have the potential to build their own personal library consisting of 50+ books by the age of five.
Our existence aims to:
- Increase early literacy
- Ensure equitable access to books
- Support families as first teachers
- Improve Kindergarten readiness
- Foster a lifelong love of reading
We bring rich literacy to children ages birth to five by:
1) Promoting the program and youth literacy to families
2) Helping families enroll their children
3) Managing the online database system
4) Raising funds to cover the cost of the books and postage
We work closely with the Dollywood Foundation who serves as the governing and administrative backbone for DPIL. It manages the international vision, selects age-appropriate book titles through a specialized committee, organizes wholesale purchasing, and oversees the secure central database while partnering with local community affiliates.
