Nonprofit: Faith In Action Of Marathon County

Faith in Action of Marathon County (FIAMC) is growing!

Many seniors in our community don’t have family or friends they can rely on for critical transportation. FIAMC helps by providing free rides within Marathon County to:

Medical appointmentsGrocery storesGeneral shoppingPersonal rides (to visit family, friends, or spouses in care facilities) or (rides to community activities, hair appointments, pharmacies, bank, library, etc.)

Volunteering not only supports your community but also brings a sense of purpose, improves mental and physical well-being, and helps you build meaningful connections.

There’s no ongoing commitment—you can volunteer as often or as little as you’d like, giving you full control of your schedule.

For an application: Contact Jamie at Faith in Action at 715-848-8783 or email WausauFIAinfo@gmail.com.

Volunteer: Peer Support Group Facilitator (Volunteer)

NAMI Northwoods offers peer support groups for adults living with mental health conditions. These groups provide a space where individuals can share openly, connect with others who understand, and feel less alone.

We are looking for volunteer facilitators to help lead these groups.

Our groups follow the NAMI Wisconsin Peer Support Group Model, which is structured to ensure a safe, respectful, and confidential environment. Groups are peer-led, meaning they are guided by individuals with lived experience of mental health who understand the journey of recovery.

Facilitators are not therapists or problem-solvers. Your role is to guide conversation, uphold group guidelines, and help create a balanced space where everyone has the opportunity to be heard.

You will follow a structured format that supports healthy discussion, reinforces boundaries, and encourages shared responsibility within the group. Training is provided, and you will co-facilitate with a partner.

This role requires strong listening skills, boundaries, and the ability to sit with people in real moments without trying to fix everything.

If you have lived experience with mental health and want to use it to support others, this is a meaningful way to give back.

NAMI Peer-to-Peer is an 8-session educational program for adults living with mental health conditions who want to better understand their experiences and move forward in their recovery.

NAMI Northwoods is looking for volunteer facilitators to help lead this program, offered both in person and virtually.

This is a structured class, not a support group. Facilitators follow a curriculum that focuses on recovery, self-awareness, communication, and building practical skills for everyday life.

Facilitators are individuals with lived experience of mental health who are further along in their recovery and want to support others on their journey. You are not expected to be a therapist or have all the answers. Your role is to guide the material, encourage discussion, and create a respectful, supportive learning environment.

Training is provided, and you will co-facilitate with a partner.

This role requires preparation, comfort speaking in front of a group, and the ability to balance structure with real conversation.

If you are passionate about recovery and want to help others build confidence and skills, this is a meaningful way to give back.

Lived experience with a mental health condition is required.

Volunteer: Family-to-Family Class Facilitator (Volunteer)

NAMI Family-to-Family is a free, 8-session course for people who support someone living with a mental health condition. It is led by trained family members who have been there and understand what it is like.

NAMI Northwoods is looking for volunteer facilitators to help lead this program, offered both in person and virtually.

You do not need to be a professional. You do not need to have all the answers. You need lived experience, the ability to listen, and a willingness to guide conversation using a structured curriculum.

Facilitators create a space where people feel understood, supported, and less alone. Training and materials are provided, and you will co-facilitate with a partner.

This is meaningful work. It can also be challenging. You will be supporting people during difficult moments, but you will also see growth, connection, and real impact.

If you have ever thought, “I wish I had something like this when I was going through it,” this is your chance to be that for someone else.

Lived experience as a family member or loved one of someone with a mental health condition is required.

Community Partners Campus – 360 Grand Ave, Wausau, WI 54401
(Please park in the main lot and enter through the front doors. United Way staff will be ready to welcome you at 10:00 AM.)

What You'll Do:
Help pack fresh, organic produce into ~200 boxes that will be distributed to local agencies throughout Marathon County. When people are experiencing financial insecurity, nutritious and locally-sourced produce may seem like a luxury. We believe that everyone deserves access to fresh, healthy foods, and providing it for free means that people can use their hard-earned dollars on other expenses. These small steps add up on someone's path to financial stability.

What to Expect:

Please dress comfortably and be prepared for your clothes and shoes to get a little dirty or wet.Plan to spend 1.5 to 2 hours packing produce. You'll also hear a bit about United Way's Hunger Coalition and the broader work we're doing to end hunger in Marathon County and lift community members to financial stability.
