Description

Museum Docents – Woodson Art Museum

Docents at the Woodson Art Museum are essential to the Museum’s mission of enhancing lives through art. As a docent you will provide gallery tours for groups of all ages, lead basic hands-on art making for tour groups, and assist with regular Museum programming. Whether you have a background in the arts or not, this is the perfect opportunity to learn, guide, and encourage curiosity.

Gallery tours are scheduled Tuesday through Friday, between the hours of 9:00am and 3:00pm. Docents will meet groups in the main entrance before guiding them through the galleries and a hands-on art making project. Each experience ranges between forty-five minutes and one and a half hours to tailor tours to visitors of all ages.

Docent training consists of a five-week course, starting on July 27th. During the course docents will learn basic art appreciation, visual thinking strategies (VTS), and practice their tour-giving skills. After the course, docents will shadow experienced docents before giving independent tours. As a docent you will enjoy regular exhibition-specific trainings, yearly volunteer appreciation events, and other Museum perks!

We welcome volunteers of all backgrounds, identities, and abilities. If you need accommodation or have questions about accessibility, please let us know. We are committed to creating a positive and welcoming experience for all.
