-Support our More Than Food (MTF) coaches to provide resources related, but not limited to housing, healthcare, and clothing to our guests

-Enter the intake forms into the computer tracking system

-Conduct follow-up phone surveys with guests and enter survey responses on the computer for recordkeeping and analysis

Training Schedule:

Complete a 1-hour training to familiarize yourself with the resources and the program. This is scheduled at an agreed upon time prior to volunteering.

Fuel Pack Crew Volunteers help make sure local elementary students head into the weekend with the nourishment they need to learn, grow, and feel supported.  Volunteers gather as a small, friendly team to pack nonperishable food bags that are discreetly sent home with students each Friday.

I.M.P.A.C.T. has been created by Good News Project to inspire young people to become active leaders through service, environmental stewardship, and community engagement.

Reception volunteers are the front line to greeting guests coming into the agency 

Our guests range from victims who are walking through our doors:

Being the first person guests see is very important to how people are welcomed here. Volunteers in reception provide administrative support for the agency.

They perform reception duties like:

» Transferring calls

» Providing general information regarding our services

» Intake donations

» Triaging callers to appropriate programs or other community resources

Volunteers must follow all agency policies and procedures, including the training required to volunteer. Must be 18 years old for this position. Some training is required. This role is mainly stationary, mostly sitting but able to stand as needed, but needs to operate an analog phone, a desktop computer to use Outlook email, and buttons to open the door. General need is weekdays from 1p to 4:30p. Current need: Thursdays 1-4:30pm.

Every Friday, our e‑CYCLING volunteers help divert electronic waste from landfills and turn it into something useful again. It’s physical, purposeful, and directly good for the earth.

Key Activities:

1.     Customer Service: Greet customers, fill out customer form, advocate for Good News Project

2.     Lifter/Sorter: Unload cars to wagons, weigh electronics, sort electronics into shipping containers

What to wear: Dress for the weather; we suggest layers. Wear comfortable closed-toed shoes. Electronics can be dirty so please plan accordingly.

Physical requirements:

·       Ability to stand for the duration of your shift.

·       As a lifter/sorter you would be required to lift 50lbs.

Partnered with the Marathon County Parks Department, the Marathon County Historical Society’s Little Red Schoolhouse gives 4th grade students a chance to experience a day in a 1900s one‑room schoolhouse. Volunteers help lead or support historic lessons using McGuffey Readers, spelling bees, recitation, and penmanship, all while dressed in period costume to create an immersive experience.

Volunteers work alongside current teachers and may step into teaching roles as openings arise. Spring and Fall sessions are available, with flexible scheduling.

The Community Closet provides free clothing to individuals and families across Marathon County, helping reduce expenses and support financial stability. Right now, we are especially in need of the following items:

NAMI Northwoods is seeking compassionate volunteers to help facilitate a Survivors of Suicide Loss Support Group for adults who have lost a loved one to suicide.

This free, peer-led support group provides a safe, confidential, and compassionate space where survivors can connect with others who understand suicide loss, share experiences, and find hope and healing through community.

Facilitators help create a safe and respectful environment for conversation and support. Responsibilities may include:

Faith in Action partners with The Neighbors Place to deliver food pantry items to seniors in Marathon County who are unable to leave their homes easily. Each care receiver is provided with two bags of groceries, delivered twice a month on Wednesday mornings.

We are currently seeking substitute drivers to step in when regular volunteers are unavailable due to illness or vacation. Routes typically take about 1.5 hours and include 4–8 deliveries, organized by location in Wausau, Rothschild, Schofield, or Weston.

Volunteers must be available to pick up pre-packed grocery bags from The Neighbors Place between 9:30 and 10:30 a.m.

Permanent routes may become available in the future.

Shelter Advocates are crucial to assisting staff with answering the support line. Relieving staff from answering the support line and assisting residents allows them to meet with clients, go to court, take walk-ins, and more! In 2025, the support line took over 2600 calls. Some duties include answering the 24-hour support line, assisting residents living in the emergency shelter, and providing support to callers and residents.

The Hospital ER Victim Advocate volunteer role is a gratifying role! This role alleviates staff from going after hours, allowing more time in the office to meet with clients.

Hospital ER Victim Advocates are vital to victims getting an exam after an assault. At the hospital, volunteer advocates provide support to the victim with empathy, compassion, and strength.

Pantry volunteers are a vital part of serving victims. Our pantry is volunteer run. This role helps make sure the pantry is in order and stocked for victims to access the items they need to survive. Many victims do not have extra means to buy food, clothing, toiletries, and other essentials that our pantry provides.

The Ombudsman Volunteer Program is seeking compassionate community members to spend 1–2 hours a week visiting residents in local nursing homes and assisted living facilities. Volunteers help ensure residents feel heard, respected, and supported.

We are currently in need of volunteers to care and engage with children anywhere from infant to teens. Some tasks may be: assist with crafts, games, free-play, and/or snacks. Childcare volunteers are to act as a positive role model for the children. Childcare volunteers are to communicate with staff with any questions or concerns regarding the children. Volunteers must follow all agency policies and procedures, including training required to volunteer. Must be 16 years old to be a childcare volunteer.

Help bring the Boys & Girls Club’s biggest celebrations to life. As an Annual Events Volunteer, you’ll support milestone moments like the Member Recognition Dinner, Thanksgiving Feast, 5th Grade Graduation, and End of Summer BBQ — events youth and families remember long after the night ends.

No event experience needed — just a positive attitude, a willingness to pitch in, and genuine excitement for celebrating young people. Volunteers should be dependable, welcoming, and comfortable in lively, fast‑paced environments.

Why Volunteer With Us

These aren’t just parties — they’re milestone moments. A 5th grader crossing the stage. A family sharing a Thanksgiving meal surrounded by community. A child hearing their name called in a room full of people who believe in them. You help make that happen, and the impact lasts far beyond the event.

Time Commitment

Events occur throughout the year and typically require 1–3 hours on event day, with optional setup opportunities beforehand. Sign up for one event or many — every celebration is a chance to make a difference.

Child care providers nurture, teach, and support children every day — and your handmade card can remind them how much they matter. Childcaring collects homemade Thank You cards all year long so we can mail a heartfelt message to every regulated child care program in our 10‑county service area for Child Care Provider Appreciation Day each May.

With the help of volunteers like you, Childcaring recently mailed nearly 250 homemade cards to licensed and certified child care programs across our region. These small gestures brought big smiles and reminded providers that their work is valued and seen.

Your card could be the one that brightens someone’s entire week.

We would welcome anyone with non-profit, fundraising, event planning experience, or with no experience in these fields, but who are willing to learn. This committee meets virtually for approximately 1 hour. The frequency of meetings depends on how close we are to upcoming events.

Tutoring volunteers play an integral role within GiGi’s Playhouse by facilitating educational and therapeutic skill development activities and connecting with families. All training is provided and you will have access to a vast library of resources to help you teach participants skills.

The Literacy and Math programs are both individualized to each participants unique interests, skill levels, and needs. Literacy is designed to improve participants language (both written and spoken). Math programming is built to develop skills from basic number, shape, and color identification to multiplication and division.

These programs serve ages 3 to adulthood, and volunteers must be 16 years old or greater.

Impact: Your presence helps learners of all ages build confidence, discover new skills, and connect deeply with the natural world at the George W. Mead Wildlife Area.

Role: Outdoor Lesson Leader When: Typically 8:30–2:30 (varies by group)

What You Make Possible:

Students experience hands‑on outdoor learning

Groups feel welcomed, supported, and encouraged to explore

Nature education becomes accessible for all ages—from kindergarten to seniors

What You’ll Do:

Lead one pre‑scripted lesson such as survival strategies, nature hikes, foraging, birding, orienteering, or fly tying

Teach outdoors for most sessions

Arrive 30 minutes before the group and stay until departure

Use materials that are fully prepared and ready when you arrive

What You Bring:

A friendly, patient presence

Comfort being outdoors

Enthusiasm for helping people learn in nature
