United Way’s Hunger Coalition is looking for volunteers interested in supporting Our Garden throughout the growing season.

Our Garden is a welcoming community space where people can gather, learn, and access fresh food for free during the growing season. The project helps increase access to locally grown fresh produce throughout Marathon County. Produce harvested from the garden is shared with volunteers and local food pantries.

By signing up, you will be added to a volunteer contact list and notified when garden workdays, planting dates, harvest opportunities, and other volunteer needs are scheduled.

No gardening experience? No problem! We welcome anyone who enjoys being outdoors, getting their hands dirty, and helping create something meaningful for the community.

Aspirus Rainbow's End Day Camp for children with special needs gives these children (ages 5-21) from throughout north central Wisconsin a weeklong summer camp experience that encourages creativity and enhances the self-confidence of these children. The camp gives them the opportunity to enjoy safe, creative, and fun activities in a beautiful Wisconsin outdoor setting. The camp activities are individualized for each camper based on their abilities, strengths, and potential.

The camp relies heavily on volunteers who work one-on-one with these children so that they can participate to the fullest degree in camp activities.

You can volunteer for one or both weeks: July 20-24, 2026 and/or July 27-31,2026

The Aspirus Family House is a beautiful, modern, home-like facility that provides temporary housing for patients traveling for long-term outpatient specialty care, as well as families coming long distances to be near their loved one who's hospitalized. The house eases the financial burden associated with travel for our most vulnerable patients and families.

Help our guests by visiting with them in common areas, assisting staff with changing beds, cleaning, basic household duties, etc. to help keep the house looking fresh, organized, well-stocked and homelike.

Aspirus Wausau Hospital is looking for compassionate individuals to help brighten the day of patients and guests. Patient Support volunteers play a vital role by delivering flowers, mail, and donated comfort items to patients and guests. They also assist patients and visitors with wayfinding and support hospital departments with mailings and special projects. Volunteers go into homes throughout Marathon County to install and show the subscriber how to use their personal help button and Lifeline unit. They also provide replacement batteries for personal help buttons and units in subscriber homes, as well as general troubleshooting. Must possess a valid WI driver's license. Training provided. Mileage reimbursement.

As an EZ Rider driver, you'll operate a golf cart-style vehicle specially designed to help our patients and visitors navigate the hospital. Your role will be to provide transport assistance within the hospital, ensuring patients and guests reach their destination safely and comfortably. Whether it's assisting someone who needs a little extra help or simply brightening their day, you'll make a big difference in their experience. This unique opportunity helps support patients navigating cancer treatment at the Aspirus Regional Cancer Center. Volunteers assist cancer patients with access to and education on wigs, turbans, and scarves, helping them feel confident and cared for during their health journey. Help pack fresh, organic produce into ~200 boxes that will be distributed to local agencies throughout Marathon County. Each week during the growing season, United Way’s Hunger Coalition purchases produce from Red Door Family Farm and Cattail Organics in Athens, WI meaning dollars stay local and your efforts make it easier to get this healthy food into the hands of those who need it most.

Why It Matters:
When people are experiencing financial insecurity, nutritious and locally-sourced produce may seem like a luxury. We believe that everyone deserves access to fresh, healthy foods, and providing it for free means that people can use their hard-earned dollars on other expenses. These small steps add up on someone's path to financial stability.

We are looking for homemade Christmas cards to send to our care-receivers in December.

Legislative Action Volunteers can make a huge impact when it comes to laws relating to victims - whether that is about funding, domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, gun laws, transgender laws, and more!

You would be contacting legislators on behalf of yourself, but it is volunteer time. Whether that is calling, emailing, or tweeting, we are hoping to make a positive impact in the lives of the victims we serve. 

This role would be a volunteer from home role. A staff person will send out info as we get it for you to reach out to legislators. This is a role you can do from home on your own time!

NAMI Northwoods offers peer support groups for adults living with mental health conditions. These groups provide a space where individuals can share openly, connect with others who understand, and feel less alone.

We are looking for volunteer facilitators to help lead these groups.

Our groups follow the NAMI Wisconsin Peer Support Group Model, which is structured to ensure a safe, respectful, and confidential environment. Groups are peer-led, meaning they are guided by individuals with lived experience of mental health who understand the journey of recovery.

Facilitators are not therapists or problem-solvers. Your role is to guide conversation, uphold group guidelines, and help create a balanced space where everyone has the opportunity to be heard.

You will follow a structured format that supports healthy discussion, reinforces boundaries, and encourages shared responsibility within the group. Training is provided, and you will co-facilitate with a partner.

This role requires strong listening skills, boundaries, and the ability to sit with people in real moments without trying to fix everything.

If you have lived experience with mental health and want to use it to support others, this is a meaningful way to give back.

Lived experience with a mental health condition is required.

NAMI Peer-to-Peer is an 8-session educational program for adults living with mental health conditions who want to better understand their experiences and move forward in their recovery.

NAMI Northwoods is looking for volunteer facilitators to help lead this program, offered both in person and virtually.

This is a structured class, not a support group. Facilitators follow a curriculum that focuses on recovery, self-awareness, communication, and building practical skills for everyday life.

Facilitators are individuals with lived experience of mental health who are further along in their recovery and want to support others on their journey. You are not expected to be a therapist or have all the answers. Your role is to guide the material, encourage discussion, and create a respectful, supportive learning environment.

Training is provided, and you will co-facilitate with a partner.

This role requires preparation, comfort speaking in front of a group, and the ability to balance structure with real conversation.

If you are passionate about recovery and want to help others build confidence and skills, this is a meaningful way to give back.

Lived experience with a mental health condition is required.

NAMI Family-to-Family is a free, 8-session course for people who support someone living with a mental health condition. It is led by trained family members who have been there and understand what it is like.

NAMI Northwoods is looking for volunteer facilitators to help lead this program, offered both in person and virtually.

You do not need to be a professional. You do not need to have all the answers. You need lived experience, the ability to listen, and a willingness to guide conversation using a structured curriculum.

Facilitators create a space where people feel understood, supported, and less alone. Training and materials are provided, and you will co-facilitate with a partner.

This is meaningful work. It can also be challenging. You will be supporting people during difficult moments, but you will also see growth, connection, and real impact.

If you have ever thought, “I wish I had something like this when I was going through it,” this is your chance to be that for someone else.

Lived experience as a family member or loved one of someone with a mental health condition is required.

Deliver Food and Hope! As a Community Care Courier, you'll be the friendly face delivering groceries to food pantry clients who have difficulty getting a ride to the pantry, especially in the colder months. Your role is more than just delivery—it's about bringing a little extra kindness and ensuring that neighbors in need have access to nutritious food with a smile. You'll be a vital link between the pantry and thecommunity, helping to make a real difference in people's lives. Delivery drivers will be a part of a team and will have access to the CCH transport van, or be reimbursed at the federal charitable rate. Must be 18 or older to volunteer. All drivers must have a valid license. Scheduling is flexible and can be adjusted in the event of inclement weather. Support someone who is supporting someone else.

NAMI Northwoods is looking for volunteers to help lead our Family Support Group, a space for people who have a loved one living with mental illness.

As a facilitator, you’ll help create a welcoming, respectful environment where participants can share, listen, and feel less alone. You don’t need to have all the answers. You just need to be willing to show up, listen, and help guide the conversation.

All facilitators receive training and ongoing support from NAMI, NAMI WI, and NAMI Northwoods.
