McLit, downtown location, is looking for a detail-oriented volunteer to support the behind-the-scenes work that keeps literacy programs running.  This hybrid role blends light office tasks, event coordination, and simple digital commuication--all essential to helping learners and tutors stay connected.

Create social media posts promoting upcoming events

Post volunteer opportunities on the TMC Hub

Assist with event and volunteer organization

Complete basic office and computer‑based tasks

Join a weekly check‑in with the Executive Director for direction and support

Your work helps McLit reach adult learners, promote literacy programs, and connect volunteers with meaningful opportunities.  When communication and coordination run smoothly, more learners find the support they need -- and more volunteers discover ways to serve.

3–8 hours per week | Monday-Friday, 9a-4p

Your contribution strengthens McLit's outreach, supports literacy access, and helps learners build confidence and independence.  Every organized detail and every post helps someone move forward.  

The McLit Bee Benefit is McLit’s largest annual fundraiser — an energetic Adult Spelling Bee that raises awareness, celebrates lifelong learning, and supports literacy programs across the Wausau area. Volunteers help make this fun, community‑building event run smoothly so McLit can continue providing essential adult education services.

Support event setup (tables, signage, materials)

Assist with registration and welcome guests

Help manage the silent auction and donated baskets

Guide teams and spectators throughout the evening

Provide general event support to keep things running smoothly

Time: 6:00 pm

Location: Labor Temple

Activities include the Adult Spelling Bee, pizza, non‑alcoholic beverages, and a silent auction.

The Bee Benefit is McLit’s main fundraiser of the year, and every dollar raised supports adult learners working toward confidence, independence, and new opportunities. Your help ensures the event is welcoming, organized, and successful — directly strengthening literacy access in Wausau.

McLit’s walk‑in learning center is a busy, welcoming space where adults come for tutoring, support, and encouragement.

As an Admin Support Volunteer, you help keep the heart of our organization running smoothly — making it possible for staff and tutors to spend more time directly supporting learners.

This is a great role for someone who enjoys organizing, greeting people, and creating a warm, calm environment where everyone feels welcome.

What You Can Help With:

You can choose the tasks that fit your strengths and comfort level:

•  Greeting learners and helping them sign in

•  Answering basic questions or directing visitors to staff

•  Light office tasks (copying, filing, organizing materials)

•  Preparing tutoring supplies or learning packets

•  Updating resource boards or restocking forms

•  Assisting with data entry or simple computer tasks

•  Helping keep the learning center tidy and inviting

•  Supporting special projects or events as needed

You don’t need prior office experience — just a friendly presence and a willingness to help.
