Homme Heights of Wausau

Who We Are

The enduring legacy of Homme Heights is rooted in a story of remarkable foresight, compassion, and community spirit that began over a century ago. In 1882, Reverend E.J. Homme, alongside his wife Ingeborg and a dedicated circle of community supporters, sowed the seeds of what would become Homme Inc. of Wisconsin. Driven by a mission to care for the vulnerable, they established charitable social services designed to meet the immediate housing and supportive needs of senior adults. The foundational philosophy they established "then" continues to directly shape the compassionate care provided "now." As Homme Inc. of Wisconsin grew, its mission expanded across two distinct regional campuses: Homme Home for the Aging in Wittenberg and Homme Heights in Wausau. Both locations remain deeply connected to the communities they serve, boasting a rich, shared history of service. The Wausau campus, located at 2901 N. 7th Street, carries a particularly unique legacy that mirrors the region's own development since the 1880s. The site originally began as a "ticket hospital" providing vital medical care for local loggers working the Wisconsin timberlands. It then evolved into the deeply valued charitable work of St. Mary’s Hospital, which served local families from 1907 to 1970, before transitioning into Wausau Hospital North. In 1989, this historic site came full circle when it was transformed into Homme Heights. By anchoring itself on a campus with such a profound tradition of healing and hospitality, Homme Heights carries Reverend Homme’s original 1882 vision directly into the modern era—offering a comprehensive, vibrant range of housing and senior services dedicated to honoring the dignity of every resident.

What We Do

Transforming the historic former St. Mary’s Hospital into a thriving hub for senior wellness, Homme Heights of Wausau is a proud non-profit long-term care campus. Our multi-faceted community is designed to support seniors at every stage of aging, offering independent senior living at Forest Park Village (70 apartments), 24/7 assisted living at The Garden Apartments (26 apartments), and 24/7 memory care at Stone Crest Residence (16 beds). Additionally, the campus hosts the Homme Adult Day Center, which provides essential weekday support and socialization for community participants from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday.
