Description

NAMI Northwoods is seeking compassionate volunteers to help facilitate a Survivors of Suicide Loss Support Group for adults who have lost a loved one to suicide.

This free, peer-led support group provides a safe, confidential, and compassionate space where survivors can connect with others who understand suicide loss, share experiences, and find hope and healing through community.

Facilitators help create a safe and respectful environment for conversation and support. Responsibilities may include:

  • Welcoming participants and helping create a supportive atmosphere
  • Guiding discussion and encouraging peer connection
  • Maintaining a safe, respectful, and confidential environment
  • Supporting healthy boundaries and redirecting conversation when needed
  • Holding space for grief and difficult emotions without trying to “fix” them
  • Completing simple attendance or reporting information

Facilitators are not therapists, counselors, or crisis responders. Their role is to guide peer support and help maintain a compassionate, supportive environment.

Ideal volunteers are:

  • Living well in their own grief journey
  • Compassionate and nonjudgmental
  • Good listeners
  • Comfortable with difficult emotions
  • Reliable and emotionally grounded

Eligibility & Training
Facilitators should have lived experience with suicide loss and be emotionally ready to support others while maintaining healthy boundaries. Training, mentoring, and ongoing support are provided. Facilitators will complete an approved suicide bereavement support group training and participate in observation and onboarding before leading groups.

This is a meaningful opportunity to help ensure no one has to navigate suicide loss alone.
