At the Bridge Street Mission Community Shelter, we aim to create an environment of peace and safety, so that our guests can connect with the necessary resources to move out of crisis.
We need volunteers to help in our shelter with check in/out, cleaning, and providing assistance to people staying in our shelter. The ideal person would have a compassionate heart, and an understanding that the people coming to us have usually experienced severe trauma in their lives. The totes our guests use to store their belongings can also be heavy, so please be aware if you would be willing to help with either the morning or evening check ins.
There's no better training than on the job! We have fellow volunteers and staff experienced in helping people and are happy to train. If you have the empathy and really want to help people, we can teach you the skills to improve somebody's life.
We are especially looking for people who would be willing to help with overnight shifts. This is an opportunity to meet people in a crisis situation, and provide for their basic needs so they can start to move toward success.
