The Marathon County Historical Society is seeking volunteer assistants to help support our Kids History Camp, From Forest to City: How Wausau Grew Up.
Camp Assistant Volunteers will work alongside MCHS staff and camp instructors to help create a welcoming, organized, and engaging experience for campers. Volunteers do not need to be history experts. The most important qualities are reliability, patience, and a willingness to support children as they explore local history through hands-on activities.
Volunteer Responsibilities May Include:
- Helping facilitate camp activities and projects
- Assisting instructors with setup and cleanup
- Helping keep camper groups organized and together
- Supporting transitions between activities and spaces
- Helping supervise campers during activities, lunch, and movement breaks
- Encouraging positive participation and respectful behavior
- Supporting a safe, welcoming, and fun camp environment
Ideal Volunteers:
- Enjoy working with children
- Are dependable and patient
- Are comfortable helping in an active camp setting
- Have an interest in local history, education, museums, or community programs
Additional Requirement:
Because this volunteer role involves working with children, a background check is required before volunteering.
Camp Dates: July 7–10, 2026
Time: 9:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.
Location: Woodson History Center
Volunteers may sign up for the full week, or separate days based on availability.
