Volunteer Opportunity: Buckthorn Removal
Help restore and protect 5 acres of natural habitat by removing invasive buckthorn. This is an ongoing project, and volunteers can contribute a full 8-hour day or as many hours as possible throughout the week.

Responsibilities
- Identify buckthorn and distinguish it from native trees and shrubs.
- Cut and remove buckthorn using hand tools and approved power tools.
- Gather, move, and properly stage cut brush.
- Follow all safety and site-management instructions.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of tree and shrub identification, or the ability and willingness to learn.
- Experience using outdoor power tools, or the ability to complete required training.
- Ability to perform physical work outdoors, including walking on uneven terrain, bending, lifting, and moving brush.
- Dependability and respect for the surrounding habitat.
Tools and Safety
Work may involve power equipment such as a brush cutter or weed trimmer fitted with an approved brush-cutting or circular saw blade. Volunteers may use this equipment only when it is manufacturer-approved, properly guarded, and permitted by the site supervisor. Training and appropriate personal protective equipment are required.
