McLit volunteers help adults build the skills that open doors — to jobs, independence, confidence, and connection
As a tutor, you’ll work one‑on‑one with adult learners in a welcoming, walk‑in learning center where every person is met with dignity and encouragement.
This role is intentionally flexible. You bring your strengths, and we’ll help you find the best match.
What You Can Help With
Choose one area or explore several — we’ll support you in finding the right fit:
- Reading & Writing Literacy | Support adults building foundational reading, writing, or comprehension skills.
- Math & Financial Literacy | Help learners understand budgeting, everyday math, and financial decision‑making.
- English Language Learning (ESL) | Practice conversation, vocabulary, pronunciation, and real‑life English skills.
- Health & Life Skills | Assist with understanding forms, navigating healthcare information, or preparing for daily tasks.
- Employment Support | Work on resumes, job searches, applications, and interview preparation.
- Digital & Computer Basics | Help learners use email, search online, complete applications, or build confidence with technology.
- Citizenship & GED/HSED Preparation | Support adults studying for exams and building long‑term educational goals.
You don’t need to be an expert — just patient, encouraging, and willing to learn alongside your learner.
